Well it certainly has been a fantastic year for Street Art around London, and we here at London Calling Blog have just had a blast along the way. We have had the chance to travel all over London to hunt out and witness some amazing art, we have met a number of wonderful people, fellow enthusiasts, talented artists and those who spend their time facilitating the production of such visual treats.
We thought the only way to end a such a fantastic year would be to offer a selective run down of the highlights of what has happened in the capital in terms of Street Art this year. Having started our blog in January earlier this year, this also offers us here at London Calling Blog the chance to reflect on all that we have seen and the places we have visited in our first eventful year. While there is arguably an excessive number of photos below, good luck to any who make it to the end of the post, but we assure you this is merely a selection of the incredible and consistent output that marks London’s Street Art scene.
There are so many things worth mentioning from 2015 as we have been blessed by consistent work from the many talented and diverse London based artists, as well as a steady stream of international talent passing through London to add something to the ever-changing walls. Particular highlights of the year for us include Femme Fierce at Croydon and Leake Street, Trust Icon’s ‘Genuine Article‘ Exhibition around London, Captain Kris’ Birthday Paint Jam, Meeting of Styles, the Whitecross Street Party as well as the couple of Drips & Runs live painting sessions we were fortunate enough to attend. This isn’t to neglect all the fantastic individual works we were fortunate enough to see put together, affording us the time to witness some of the techniques involved in such pieces.
Its fantastic to have seen Street Art spread beyond its more long term East End and North London haunts, with Brockley receiving a makeover with the Brockley Street Art Festival in June, artworks popping up in Tooting, Latimer Road, Walthamstow and on larger scale the way in which Croydon has gradually become awash with high quality Street Art over the course of 2015.
We would like to take the time to say a big thank you to all who have supported us here at London Calling Blog, it is exceptionally appreciated and we are very grateful for the support, encouragement and help from many kind people. We would like to thank New Art Rioter & Maria727 for all the consistent support, especially when starting the blog and for offering invaluable feedback on pieces we have required help understanding. To the many people who make our job of finding works easier, namely: Mark Hat, M_Frenchi, Mrs Jacks, Jask, Spike & Street Art Atlas, without these people there are countless pieces we wouldn’t of had the opportunity of finding so quick, if at all, and sharing with you. To Dosenkurst, Tanya Nash, Mitch, New Art Rioter and Maria727 for all the comments and opinions on our posts and additionally to everyone who has added comments and to all those who have shared our posts.. All the photos on our blog are taken by our team here, however on rare occasions we have used photos from fellow enthusiasts and bloggers, so big thanks go to Street Art Atlas and M_Frenchi for providing us with some great photos that have enhanced our posts.
We would also like to extend our thanks to Greg and Lara at BSMT Space, the Drips & Runs team, Ayaan at Femme Fierce, Inspiring City and Pinch Mugshots. To the MYA Gallery, Graffik Gallery and BSMT Space for providing us with early access to exhibitions when we have been short of time. To those who are responsible for facilitating the bulk of Street Art in certain areas around London, namely; The Real Art of Street Art, Global Street Art and The Hidden Streets of London for all the hardwork they do, as well as letting us know when some artists have been working. To the Jealous Gallery for allowing us constant access to their superb ongoing Jealous Rooftop Mural Project. Finally to the countless number of artists who have obliged our photography, questions and especially to all those artists who have kindly given us a heads up to when they have painted so we could document the entire working process. It is for the kindness and support of all these people that we have managed to report on all that we have, Thank You most sincerely from us here at London Calling Blog.
