Well it has to be said it is certainly hard to believe that the BSMT Space recently turned one year old and celebrated in style with a group show entitled ‘One Year Underground’ comprising a number of the artists who have exhibited in the gallery since its creation last year. We are sorry to say that the for the first time we were unable to attend an opening night at this gallery and it appears quite the celebration was had by all to accompany the wealth of fantastic art on display. Greg and Lara have very much done an excellent job with this space over the last year, and we don’t say this out of any form of favouritism because it is true that no gallery in 2016 has brought such consistent and diverse shows of such a standard including hosting Fanakapan’s first solo exhibition, Nick Flatt & Paul Punk as well as Clandestinos’s first UK exhibitions. However above all else is the unpretentious attitude that accompanies this gallery and the staff there, somewhere you can go and see fantastic art without being looked down upon or given the immediate hard sale, always a pleasure to visit BSMT Space.
Certainly the best way to reflect on the last year with additions exclusively from the many artists who have exhibited there including new works from each of the artists who have put on solo shows there. With this in mind that there are a vast array of works to choose from it certainly makes it difficult to pick favourites so we will keep it brief with works from Christian Nagel, Nick Flatt, Float, Saki&Bitches, Himbad and Fanakapan providing the highlights.
The BSMT Space can be found at 5 Stoke Newington Road and the ‘One Year Underground’ show runs until October 24th. so if you haven’t already, head along to see the great show for yourselves, you won’t be disappointed and we here at London Calling Blog eagerly anticipate what this thriving space will bring over the coming year as its portfolio develops.
