New Dan Kitchener Street Art ‘Downtown’ In Brick Lane

Well that’s it with 2015 for now with us at London Calling Blog, it was a great year, but it’s time to move on to the visual delights London has already been treated to this year, and we are starting with what is officially the first part of London Street Art of 2016 with this stunning work from Dan Kitchener in Brick Lane painted on New Years Day. Any of our long-term viewers or anyone who caught our retrospective look back at London Street Art in 2015 (covered here), will be familiar with the fact that Dan Kitchener is one of our absolute favourite artists and can appreciate our delight at this being our first work to witness and document on just the first day of 2016.

Dank’s latest work entitled ‘Downtown’ and part of his distinct ‘Liquid Lights’ series was created in a mere five hours and depicts a beautiful rainy night-time cityscape scene in Tokyo. What we love most about this piece is the real sense of depth created in this work, with the scene just flowing into the hoardings on which it adorns, almost inviting you to try and walk into the piece. This piece is also notable for presenting a real loose painterly quality, even for Dan Kitchener whose work has a very loose and flowing styling about it at the best of times. All in all just stunning, a superb way to kick-off 2016’s Street Art journey in London.

This shot demonstrates the flawless manner in which Dan Kitchener has blended the piece to some of the environment, with the seamless manner in which the lamppost behind the hoarding fuses with his cityscape scene.

Dan Kitchener stands beside the lovely finished work, also offering a good sense of scale to a work that took an incredible 5 hours only.

      • I did indeed and have added a snap to my blog taken in the dark!!! https://lordhicks.wordpress.com/
I was also lucky to see the new Zabou artwork on Andrews Road, Hackney. My main visit to London was to see the “Reveal” Exhibition in Westgate Street, London Fields. That exhibition is only open until Sunday so do try to get along there!

      • Hi Mitch, great night snap, they don’t always work, but well done. Thanks so much for heads up to exhibition, unfortunately we were down covering the Paint Jam in Blackall Street, knowing we wouldn’t be able to return for a week, so failed to make it to the show, will keep an eye out on your blog to see if you share anything of it! However thanks very much for suggestion, we always appreciate and in this case didn’t know of the show until you mentioned. Cheers.
