Next up we are taking a look at a superb addition to Anerley Hill by visiting international street artist Klonism, which was placed up over the summer for our SprayExhibition20 Community Street Art Project. We haven’t had many international visitors come and paint in London as a whole, let alone in our corner of town, over the last 18 months or so, however over the summer we were treated to a visit from English born, but Mexican based artist Klonism. The artist brought his distinctly Latin-American influenced style and imbued his subjects with a classical or traditional English sensibility fusing both cultures so perfectly in this striking and super fun piece titled Space Race. This cosmic scene is led by a top hat sporting frog atop a penny farthing, trailed by a rat flying a mallard donning a flat cap, with a fox riding a jet-powered snail at the rear, all on their way to destinations unknown. It was an absolute pleasure to have Klonism visit London and paint this incredible work for our corner of the city and we hope we get to bring him back in the future to add some more creativity to the area.
We of course wish to say a massive thank you to the generous space owner, who kindly donated a spot and trusted us to work it. We would like to also extend a thank you to local councilors Angela Wilkins & Patrick Ransom for all their help in making this wall happen. As well as a really big thank you to Klonism for painting this spot local to us both in SE20 to support this initiative and for leaving such a captivating and beautiful artwork in the process. The work below is located in Anerley Vale, just across the road form the main entrance to Crystal Palace train station and was put up with support from ourselves London Calling Blog.
