Well it has taken us a couple of weeks to get round to sharing this fantastic pair of works from visiting Clandestinos duo Shalak Attack & Bruno Smoky, largely due to the difficulty we have had in attempting to utilize the many superb photo opportunities these delights offer along the canal.
Brazilian artist Bruno Smoky’s works manifest a subversive and at times sinister view of the systems which govern or define our existence, presenting a body of works reflecting upon the more ‘underground’ elements of our society, the forgotten or dispelled people within. Canadian-Chilean artist Shalak Attack creates works very much influenced by the power of nature, fused with tribal dynamics setting to create ethereal scenes and depictions of the spiritual aura around nature as expressed through her dreamy landscapes and soft, yet strong animals.
With this in mind you can see how each artist vision and focus manifested itself in their recently constructed London murals, presenting a pair of works in a bold and bright manner very much rooted in the traditions of South American culture and expression. Setting to work on a pair of shipping containers (which are currently being used to store clothing to be sent to Calais in aid of the current refugee crisis) it’s mightily impressive to see just how well the pair each worked on such unforgiving surfaces as these containers offer.
Shalak Attack opted to paint one of her colourful and soulful ‘Spirit Animal’ designs, on this occasion aptly opting to go with a Fox design just for London executed to beautiful effect, creating a piece that is so full of life. Bruno Smoky also decided to go with an animal themed work, opting with a monkey character and just like Shalak Attack wanted to make his work more site-specific to their visit to London, which sees his character accompanied by a boat inspired by the series of barges to be seen moored and casually gliding along the immediate Haggerston Riviera. Both of the works look fantastic as you stroll along the canal and really stop you in your tracks, with both works being so full of life, colour and soul. It was an absolute pleasure to get to see this duo at work on the first day of their two day effort and we here at London Calling Blog very much hope it isn’t too long before this duo return to London to treat us to some more of their vibrant and intriguing artworks.
This great pair of works were put up with support from BSMT Space, and can be found along the Haggerston Riviera just off of Kingsland Road, Haggerston.

lol nice post we must have had the same thought :p
Absolutely wonderful – They recently did some pieces in Bristol – I believe Inkie showed them around. Sadly, two of the magnificent pieces have already gone, the other one may last a little longer.
