Well we have to say that 2016 has already proved itself to be on top form regarding London’s Street Art scene, but this work we are sharing with you below is one that really is going to set the bar for all artists who paint in London this coming year. The work is a spectacular collaboration between American born, but Berlin based, Street Artist Nick Flatt and London’s very own Seeds One and most certainly stops you in your tracks.
This work now marks the second time this duo have painted together, with them creating one of 2015’s highlight works a few months ago in Shoreditch. Yet again this work by Nick Flatt & Seeds One represents the definition of photo-realism, which is certainly amazing to see executed on such a scale, fused with the fluid and more abstract elements in Seeds One’s letter work and scenery. For this work Nick Flatt painted the central figure entirely by brush, meticulously and quite literally building up his portrait over five days of relentless work, whilst Seeds One set to create the almost apocalyptic and haunted surrounding elements. Slogging it out in the cold and rain, you have to admire the dedication and effort that went into this piece – you can see the results of such time in this fantastic work.
Nick Flatt’s work really has to be seen to be believed, but you can’t argue with the pictures below either, his technical skills are absolutely top quality, and his subject so life-like, you almost expect them to step out of the wall and speak to you. So with his female portrait as the works centre-piece, and tying in with the duo’s previous work, that the glamorous self-centered beautiful individual is the one who will win in the end, those who will make us ‘Buy’ and ‘Pay’ until the world behind is some dark sinister wasteland. Seeds One’s work really has a dark yet strangely calm feel about it, with his letters flowing through the piece helping to create the sense of depth through the trailing silhouetted structures along the skyline.
You can view our post on the last work from this duo in London, from a few months ago, ‘Capitalism is Rad™’ (covered here).
