A couple of months back at the end of the summer we were fortunate to receive a visit from New Zealand street artist Chimp who one fine Sunday morning hit up a lovely artwork on the edge of Penge. Taking a freshly donated garage door Chimp painted a Huia an extinct species of New Zealand wattlebird endemic to the North Island of New Zealand. Bringing a piece of now environmental history from his homeland all the way to this quiet corner of London, Chimp fused his artistic range of geometric abstractions with a strong graphic design styling along with more figurative natural subjects, in this case the Huia, to great effect.
We wish to say a massive thank you to Chimp for spending their visit to London hanging around SE20 to support this community initiative and for leaving such a lovely artwork for the townsfolk and ourselves to enjoy in the process. We would also like to say a big thank you to the generous space owner, who kindly donated a spot and trusted us to work it. The fantastic work below was placed up in Parish Lane, Penge, and was put up with support from ourselves London Calling Blog for our SprayExhibition20 community street art project around SE20.
