Here we wanted to share some of the moments from the absolutely amazing day we had on our recent Street Art tour of our SprayExhibition20 community street art project around Penge and Anerley. The tour was put on for a number of reasons, principally to promote our publication made alongside Street Art Atlas documenting our mural project around SE20 – SprayExhibition20 – The Street Art of Penge and Anerley (available here) – and to raise some funds for St Christopher’s Hospice in the process. Lastly just because with life as it is we haven’t been able to do any free tours since January 2020 so it was well overdue!
So where to begin, firstly with the overwhelming number of people who showed up with over 70 people joining us over the 7 hours and 20 minutes we spent walking around SE20’s artworks – the last pieces seen were done so by the light of our phone! Credit to everyone who made it to very end of the tour. It was lovely to have a mixture of locals and those from further afield in attendance, as well as to see the diverse group who joined us, young and old and even a couple of dogs, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The weather was perfect – for us anyway, the threats of rain were very short-lived and mercifully kept away and we had no overt sunshine to cast glare and shadows on any of the artworks. We saw around 120 of the 177 artworks currently up for our project – we would of needed another 2-3 hours to see it all. In addition to all the artworks we got to enjoy we were also privileged to have 6 artists who have been painting in Penge the last 6 years come and paint a half-a-dozen artworks for the occasion. Massive Thank you to Abraham01, Aero, Airborne Mark. Enigm, Morgasmik and Woskerksi for turning out in the cold and creating the beautiful artworks and supporting a great cause in doing so.
In all we had an absolutely wonderful time – it’s rare we get to actually see most of or all of the artworks for scattered around SE20 in one go – and it is always a pleasure to share it with so many people interested in the artworks. The day was full of much love, fun and an abundance of high quality artworks. In all the day exemplified why running this project in Penge is so rewarding.
Thank you to Street Art Atlas for not just making this wonderful book we have put jointly put together, and providing some more of their great photos for this blog post, but also helping with the artists on the day and helping ourselves mulsh the spots the day before. Also thank you to Kevin for the help on the day with the artists and again prepping spots in advance of the tour. Thank you also to Colossice Press for all the help on the day and collecting the collection bucket on our behalf and helping raise some much needed funds for St Christophers Hospice. We also would like to thank the few people who kindly arranged to keep cars clear of a few spots for us in advance and those businesses who whipped shutters down during business hours for the artwork on their premises to be enjoyed.
MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who turned out to enjoy the day and all the more so for the exceptional generosity all who attended showed who helped raise £297.50 including a further 12 book sales of Colossice Press’s wonderful publication ‘How Graffiti Saved My Dad’s Life (At Least For a While)’ with all proceeds going to St Christopher’s Hospice. We had one of the best days we have spent on this project with you all.

Since 2016 Penge and Anerley has become a hub for Street Art in London, with SE20 having hosted over 400 artworks to date. So in acknowledgment of how this project has grown beyond our wildest dreams, we thought it was time to share some of this project with anyone who is interested. SprayExhibition20 – The Street Art of Penge and Anerley is the first publication to showcase the art of Penge and Anerley, covering a selection of work from 110 artists spanning 2016-2020. The book offers a peek behind the scenes and tells the story of how this quiet little corner of London has become one of London’s largest open-air galleries, documented by London Calling Blog and Street Art Atlas.
All proceeds go to St Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham. Free UK Postage.
