Next up in our run of catching up with what we have been up to in our corner of South-East London over the recent few months we are taking a look at a stunning artwork from street artist Zabou placed up last month in Penge for our SprayExhibition20 community street art project.
Making her first visit to paint in Penge, we were delighted to have Zabou take to one of the largest walls we have painted about SE20 as well as having the pleasure of seeing this striking work come together. We have long been enormous fans of Zabou’s work and its amazing to see how her work has evolved from purely stencil designs to the photo-realistic large-scale works she creates now. For this large-scale work in Penge titled Modern Day Addiction Zabou looked at society’s relationship with modern technology and social media and in doing so has painted a striking grey-scale portrait of a female subject engrossed in looking at her mobile phone – the glow effect on her face is superbly executed.
We of course wish to say a big thank you to the owners of the space who kindly donated a spot and trusted us to work it. Thank you to the owners and their neighbours for being so hospitable and looking after us so well – especially with maneuvering the mammoth tower about. Also we would like to say thank you to Kevin, Diego, and Street Art Atlas for all the help on this spot. As well as a really massive thank you to Zabou for coming down to Penge to support this initiative and for leaving such a striking artwork in the process. This work can be found in Thesiger Road, Penge, and was put up with support from ourselves London Calling Blog.
