For this blog post we are taking a look at the first mural to go up in Plumstead, which was painted by street artist Ant Carver as part of a new initiative in the area by Street Art Atlas.
Over the latter half of 2020 Ant Carver’s artistic output has taken a new direction which takes a shift from his looser more colorful works to a more traditional realistic representation of his portraiture subjects, to great effect. This striking work in Plumstead is part of a series of works exploring dealing with loss and grief and in this instance this two floor wall draws inspiration from Auguste Rodin’s iconic The Thinker statue which has also been known as The Mourner. It’s certainly interesting to see this change in Ant Carver’s style and we look forward to seeing where this artist takes his art from here. This stunning work can be found on Herbert Road, Plumstead, and was put up with support from Street Art Atlas.
