Here we are taking a look at a fantastic freestyle collaboration by trio Morgazmik, Samer and Frankie Strand on the hoardings of the HIVE along the Kingsland Road. The work was commissioned by ReSpace Projects in order to raise awareness about their work in the public eye through the visual language & gorilla advertisement of street art as well provide the public with something to remember the two and a half years in which the HIVE utilized the space for social good before the now current redevelopment of the space into luxury flats. Over the last two and a ahlf years the HIVE (Human Interest Versatile Environment) operated with permission from the space owners as a not-for-profit volunteer driven cultural and social hub through the re-use of empty buildings.
The freestyle collaboration is certainly captivating and very much utilises the dual sections of hoarding, with Frankie Strand and Morgazmik working together on one section and Samer and Morgazmik collaborating on the other section with a piece which was initially commenced around the theory of resistance in that nature will prevail in the end over all of mankinds creations and implements. However as the work began to take shape artists Samer and Morgazmik started to present their scene around the abstract concept of the Buddhist proverb of ‘As above as below’ setting to invert the realms of perception regarding landscapes and ones environement into the slightly surreal scene presented such as the flying fish depicted with botanical butterfly fins blowing its bubbles beyond its watery realm into the sky. Certainly a beautiful and captivating collaborative work which makes exemplary used of the space available and pays a beautiful tribute to a space that offered so much to its community. This fantastic work can be found at the site of the former HIVE at 260-264 Kingsland Road Haggerston and should be on display for another six or so months.
