Elno & Frankie Strand Paint Caravans For Calais In Walthamstow

Playing catch up again this morning we are taking a look at a pair of delightful works created for a great cause by Street Artists Elno and Frankie Strand in Walthamstow as part of a beautiful project we wanted to share here with you. Put together by Wood Street Walls working on behalf of Walthamstow and the Caravans to Calais project to support migrants in the Jungle. In conjunction with this, local MP Stella Creasy led a fundraising effort to buy and fill three caravans for supporting families currently in the Jungle.

In the weeks following from when the project was set in motion and implemented, the theme and local mood took quite a significant turn with the murder of Jo Cox as well as Brexit and the anti-migration sentiment in England. With this is mind it was decided to use the paintings as an opportunity to make a statement demonstrating we are still a supportive and caring community in the UK. The caravans were based in and painted in the Walthamstow St Johns Ambulance station and painted with a theme chosen for Stella’s friend and fellow MP who was murdered of white roses. Certainly a beautiful and touching set of works from Elno and Frankie Strand for this noble cause.
