Earlier this year in late Spring London received a visit from Sheffield born, but Portugal based, street artist Rocket01 who made a visit to Penge to leave what is currently his second piece in the area – and his only two pieces currently in London, Penge is truly privileged.
Rocket01’s work is instantly recognisable as his own, with a distinct colour palette inspired by the natural world and rich in green, turqouise, red and pink hues. Through his art Rocket01 creates surreal otherworldly scenes exploring themes of environmentalism, nature and technology, often with a serene and stark vibe about them. Animals are often featured along side humans offering a glimpse of how we may co-exist in the future or in another dimension.
For his latest addition to London’s wall titled Biosphere Tears Rocket01 has painted a portrait of a woman’s face, set crying, and filling her helmet with tears. The lead subject’s helmet is adorned with flowers and some hanging jewels and she is accompanied by a pair of birds on either side. There is always so much emotion and feeling in this artist’s work and this piece is no exception. As mentioned above Penge is privileged to be the host to this artists only works in London, and it is also honoured to have been shouted out with the ‘I heart Penge’ badge his subject is wearing! All round a stunning work and one we are delighted to see every time we pass through our local high street.
We would like to say a massive thank you to Rocket01 for taking the time to visit SE20 on their visit to London in order to support our community artistic initiative and for leaving this absolutely beautiful artwork for ourselves and the locals to enjoy in the process. We would also like to say a big thank you to the wall owners who generously donated the space. This striking work was placed up in Penge High Street, Penge, with support from ourselves London Calling Blog for SprayExhibition20.
