At the beginning of this month we here at London Calling Blog had the distinct pleasure and honour to be invited to Belfast to document the Hit The North 2022 street art festival put on by Seedhead Arts and local artist Emic. The festival saw some 61 street artists and graffiti writers transform the hub of streets around the Sunflower Pub in the Cathedral Quarter, as well as a few other gems popping up here and there around the city for the event.
As you can see from the selection of photos below the standard of art was exceptional and there was such an impressive array of styles and subjects on display, with artists from all over Ireland being joined by some international artists from England, Scotland, Switzerland, Belgium and Germany to transform this corner of the Cathedral Quarter. The day was obviously a treat for ourselves as we got to see so much fantastic art be created before our very eyes, but what made it perfect was the incredible atmosphere this festival had with all those painting, organising or all those who passed through to enjoy and view the festivities, it’s impossible to argue that the day didn’t radiate pure fun and joy.
Belfast is awash with street art murals organised by Seedhead Arts and in our view one of the must visit cities in the UK for an abundance of high quality street art, coming in all sizes from sides of buildings to cable boxes. We saw so many works still running from previous years of the festival and other side projects we will need another blog post or two to cover them, and we shall do just do that.
We would like to say a massive thank you to Seedhead Arts and Emic, for inviting us to such an absolutely amazing event and being so hospitable to ourselves. We had a brilliant time. Big big thank you to all the talented artists we saw and met out there for giving us the time of day. As well as cheers to all the wonderful people we met whilst in this fine city.
