Here we are taking a look at a recent addition to Penge from Street Artist Aspire who tackled our first spot in conjunction with Network Rail for SprayExhibition20 and did so in first class style. Truly a captivating scene set in that delicate soft effect that defines Aspire’s own style of ethereal realism which exudes so much life and warmth through his exquisite creations. Depicting a pair of Kingfisher’s set fishing from a discarded plastic bottle that is now the mainstay of their environment – as well as acting as a tomb to the inhabiting fish – casting a scene that is so sadly full of life, beautiful yet haunting, and offering a glimpse into the destructive present we inhabit right now.
in 1960 plastic was found in around 4% of examined birds, now over 90% of all dead birds examined are found to have plastic in their stomach. We don’t like to be preachy but this is a serious issue that affects everyone and all of us on this planet, and hopefully mankind will be able to curtail this plague it has unleashed on the world. Something which starts with all of us perhaps being a bit more mindful about recycling and our consumption of single use plastics.
We would of course like to say thank you to all the local residents and businesses for helping making this new aspect of the project come into being. A BIG thank you to the helpful team at Network Rail for all their support in helping us get Aspire to add something so interesting, beautiful and thought-provoking for the community to enjoy. Shout out to Kevin for al the help with this spot, appreciated immensely mate! We also of course would like to offer a big thank you to Aspire for again coming down to Penge to leave some more of his beautiful artwork.
