Just before the weekend South African Street Artist Falko1 hit London and started a campaign of painting what he does best, namely elephants, on this occasion in a trail around Stockwell – of which we spotted some six works totaling seven elephants.
Having began painting in 1988 Falko is regarded as an integral dynamic within the creation and development of South Africa’s Graffiti scene and more recently he has been commissioned for projects including; the backdrop for Nelson Mandela’s 79th Birthday and work for the Cape Town 46664 concert. Through his work which Falko sees as a social tool, running work shops and participating in community projects highlighting issues such as gender rights, racism, environmental awareness, and creating awareness about art in and of itself as a form of sustainability. It is his passion for environmental awareness that has inspired his latest wave of pieces in London with his beautiful and soft elephants, which are all set in varying poses and different colour schemes. They are just so striking and well placed around this little corner of Stockwell, really bringing life and beauty to the area.

Work in the Stockwell Hall of Fame. Love the elements of the elephant distorting and breaking free.
These paintings are adorable. What a great project.
