New Abraham.O ‘Looking At The Sky’ Street Art in Penge

Next up we are taking a look back at the highlight of our year organizing artworks in Penge, as well as one of the absolute highlights of the last decade for ourselves on the scene, with London’s largest artwork to date by the incredibly talented Abraham.O. The epic work titled Looking At The Sky is nothing short of a masterpiece. It took a solid week of work from Abraham.O painting with rollers and household brooms. You need to elevate 90 metres above the rooftop to be able to see the whole artwork in all it’s spectacular glory. It is really hard to comprehend how this talented artist constructed such a tight image when you are stood on the rooftop. The mural adorns is so energetic, all you can see at that point are the dash’s and squiggles of paint, which are with this manic mess of black, grey and white lines converging at a great height to make this stunning portrait.

What is most impressive is how Abraham.O created the design and all four layers (black, dark grey, light grey and white) so perfectly without being able to step back and appreciate the scale. The original concrete floor of the rooftop remains in the design, showing there was no cutbacks or corrections in the execution of this mammoth feat. As no one can see it, it begs the question, why create an artwork nobody can see? For Abraham virtually all of his art is covered or disappears at some point, so this would just be another case of this happening when the building was demolished.

What also makes this artwork so special for ourselves is how it was funded entirely by donations from the local town and general public, who donated a whopping £1600 to cover the cost of the more 300 litres of paint, rollers, sleeves and water. Community spirit was at the heart of this incredible piece of art, especially when the people donating had no idea what was going to be painted or even by whom.

The incredible artwork below was put up at the Blenheim Centre, Penge, with support from ourselves London Calling Blog, for SprayExhibition20, as part of the Penge Rooftop Gallery project we worked on with Hadley Property Group and Clarion Housing. We wish to offer a huge thank you to NinjaBoyRuns for all the help getting the roof clean and free of weeds. As well as a huge thank you to Street Art Atlas for all the help behind the scenes on this mammoth task. We would like to offer a massive thank you to everyone who donated to cover the cost of materials, making this masterpiece happen.

Looking At The Sky, London’s largest non-commercial street art mural to date.

The energy, layering and texture in this piece is exceptional. We can’t comprehend how Abraham.O was able to construct this piece so effortlessly, and more so, perfectly.

Before, and what a transformation.
