Next up we are taking a look back at a stunning addition to the Penge Rooftop Gallery, that was put up amid the freezing and very wet weather that we were subject to at the turn of the year by the ever prolific and very talented street artist Aspire. This particular work depicts a large-scale Peregrine Falcon sat atop its hunting ground in Penge with a series of Pigeon feathers cascading away from the alluded to fresh kill. This work is not only a captivating depiction of an apex predator, but it was also chosen for the reason that Penge is home to one of 30 breeding pairs of Peregrine Falcon’s that can currently be found in London, with them nesting in the nearby St John’s Church – which the subject is set gazing towards. Whilst we had this space for three and a half years, we were fortunate enough to on just one occasion see one of the Falcon’s on the roof enjoying it’s freshly caught meal and on countless occasions we found the remains of the Pigeon’s they had caught and eaten. We love how Aspire has on many occasions over the years painted slightly more rare avian subjects that have been spotted locally in SE20, but this one is hands down our favourite, the piece was spectacular and really did this powerful subject justice. The striking work below was placed up in Penge with support from London Calling Blog for SprayExhibition20.
