One of the highlights of Penge’s street art scene in 2024 was the pair of walls painted by visiting Australian artist Jasmine Crisp, the first of which we are looking at below. This striking piece was painted with brushes and just some red, blue, yellow and white masonry paint. The work has a title that matches the surreal dynamic of the artwork namely “His body had been there before so he could feel it forever more (a portrait of Conor)”. The work features a portrait of her friend from Australia of whom Jasmine took this photograph before her travels through Italy, Austria, Germany, Mexico and the UK, of which the varying scenery surrounding her subject are an amalgamation of various analogue photos Jasmine Crisp took on her travels. For the artist the image represents the unprocessed sea of recent memories and places she had visited which appeared more like an imagined fantasy than her own real life experiences. This stunning artwork is placed up in Southey Street, Penge, and was put up with support from ourselves London Calling Blog.
