Next up in our series of blog posts playing catch up with works and pieces we have had the pleasure of seeing through 2024, we are taking a look at a pair of superb works that were placed up in Penge earlier this year by street artist Irony during the fine late Spring weather. Taking to the top floor of the Penge Rooftop Gallery, Penge, Irony hit up, in our opinion, one of the stand-out pieces from 900 or so first rate artworks that have adorned the space during the last three years, as well as one of the funniest artworks the space has seen.
The larger work taking centre stage on Level 4 of the roof, spans four walls, the floor and included a woodcut placed above the piece, taking the design well beyond conventional framing available in most murals. The anamorphic piece was not only a first class concept, but executed masterfully, both things we have to say no longer surprises us when it comes to this exceptional artist. The work features a woman’s arm set spraying bright green paint and with the piece, the devil is definitely in the details. The attention to detail is extraordinary, offering so much to take in.
The second piece features a rat dragging a massive slice of mushroom topped pizza up the slope of one of the ramps with the cheese and mushrooms stretching along the floor. We know that this artist loves painting mice and rats and this one is so fun and full of character.
The below works were put up with support from ourselves London Calling Blog for our SprayExhibition20 community street art project in South-East London.
