As Winter faded and Spring began we started whilst traveling about East London to notice a number of fantastic installations around Hackney by artist Raphael Vangelis aka Brickflats who has offered some of the most interesting and fresh artistic additions to London’s streets that we have seen in sometime. His artistic name Brickflats, pretty much says it all, he has created a series of Flats to be placed in missing bricks in a satirical and all too on the nose commentary regarding the dynamics of living in big cities, with people paying a fortune to exist in the most cramped of conditions. Brickflats works are very much hidden in plain sight, if you aren’t paying attention you could easily miss them. The fact that we tend to cycle about when out exploring around East London means that we ourselves often miss such little gems, especially when then are off the beaten track of regular street art spots. His work that is not just incredibly original, is so full of character and presents such a clever and accurate view on life in a big city. So keep your eyes peeled and you maybe lucky enough check out some of his flats about town and explore a world that says so much.

Inner Wild Growth in Victoria Park, Hackney. This work is our favourite in terms of both subject and use of an unexpected space to see some street art.
