One new artist we got to discover this year was East Anglian based stencil artist Jola, who has certainly made herself busy around London over the last year, including treating Penge to 9 of her fantastic magpie based works. It is impressive to see how versatile she is with her magpie subjects – as you will see in the array of works below, being able to either paint the magpie as a single entity or as part of a more comprehensive elaborate scene. Our favourite work from Jola in SE20 this year is the first one shared below, from Padua Road, and hats off for the excellent Halloween/Day of the Dead fusion work. We look forward to seeing what 2024 brings from this artist and hope it isn’t to long before they return to Penge to leave some more brilliant stencil works in our neck of the woods.
The works below in Penge were placed up with support from ourselves London Calling Blog for our community mural project SprayExhibition20. We of course wish to say a massive thank you to JoLA for supporting our community initiative by taking the time to visit SE20 whilst traveling to London, and for leaving such a brilliant series of artworks in our corner of the world in the process. As well as a thank you to each of the respective property owners in SE20 for donating their spaces to our community project.
